Very much normal and very much like the 2004 vintage with consistent and even heat.right through to mid April. There were simply no issues with vintage. The long season allowed us to do two picks one at the end of March at just under 23 brix, the grapes of which went into Serine and the second in mid April at 25.5 brix which were used in the Rock Block Syrah.
Certainly we have found there is a big difference in style between a 23 brix wine and that at 25 brix. Rock Block reflects the extra brix in that it shows big bold sweet fruit which we have evened out by using lots of new oak in contrast to Serine where we use none. Its a big mouthful some would say its syrupy reflecting the fact it was made from super ripe grapes.
Big softy with lots of porty fruits on both nose and palate. Still silky smooth but starting to develope savoury characters and tannins now starting to show aging. Not made to cellar so drink up and enjoy the big ripe silky fruit.
